New stretch of Pink Line connecting Lajpat Nagar-Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 section will be inaugurated by Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri and Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Monday.
With the inauguration of the Pink Line, it will become the longest Metro network in the national Capital connecting Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar corridor (line 7) to Mayur Vihar Pocket -1 with total length of the stretch up to 59 km. Also, with the opening of this section, the Delhi Metro network will become 327 kms long with 236 Metro stations.
This stretch is an extension of the currently operational Majlis Park — Lajpat Nagar section and will be a boon for the commuters residing in East and South Delhi such as Ashram, Mayur Vihar, INA, South-Ex and others.
The Hazrat Nizamuddin Metro station on this stretch will connect the Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway station as well as the Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT) at Sarai Kale Khan.
The stretch will have five stations and one major interchange at Mayur Vihar-1 for Blue Line. A 63 metre Foot Over Bridge (FOB) will provide connectivity between the Mayur Vihar Pocket-I and Mayur Vihar Phase-I.
The main highlight of this section is the Ashram underground station on line 7 of Phase-III Delhi Metro was a typical underground station box of 265 metres length located along the Ring Road at the intersection of Mathura Road at the Ashram Chowk junction. The PWD had also proposed an underpass at Ashram Chowk, which was to be constructed in the future. Thus keeping provision for this underpass, the rail level at this station was dipped to -20 m below ground so that in the future this proposed underpass could be constructed above the station concourse level,” said a DMRC official.
Besides, the Hazrat Nizamudding station will be a major transit on this corridor as it would provide direct connectivity with the Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station as well as the Sarai Kale Khan Inter State Bus Terminus.
