The monsoon-triggered flood has ravaged a whopping 4 lakh acre (161765 hectare) of agricultural land in Kerala, Karnataka, Assam, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh. Though Kerala is witnessing the worst-ever floods since 1924, in West Bengal the agriculture land damaged by flood is greater.
Compared to Kerala’s loss of 42,632.73 hectare farm land, West Bengal lost crops on 48,552.580 hectare as per the latest Government data on the losses and damages in the flood-affected States.
According to report, over 50,000 houses and 42,632.73 hectare crops were completely damaged in Kerala.
A total of 5,000 trees, 1,75,00 plantain trees with fruits and 15,000 plantain trees without fruits have been uprooted across the State.
As per report, maximum number of damage to crops, animal deaths and damage to houses was reported in Kannur, Kollam, Kasaragod, Alappuzha, Idukki, Wayanad, Kottayam, Thiruvanthapuram, Palakad, Ernakulam and Mallappuram.
Report said 23 districts of West Bengal which include North 24 Parganas, Birbhum, Paschim Burdwan,Purba Burdwan, Bankura, Alipurduar,Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, Nadia, Coochbehar, Hooghly, Kalimpong, Paschim Medinipur, Jhargram, South 24 Parganas, Purulia, Purba Medinipur, Uttar Dinajpur, Dakshin Dinajpur, Murshidabad, Howrah and Kolkata faced flood damages. As many as 48552.58 hectare crops have been damaged in these districts. Nearly 2.27 lakh people are affected in 12,000 villages and 194 people died in these districts. Most of the embankments have been reported to be damaged in these districts.
In Assam, the flood affected Dhemaji, lakhimpur Sonitpur, Nalbari, Biswanath, Udalguri, Barpeta , Chirang, Kokrajhar ,Nagaon. Hojai, Karbi-Anglong East, Karbi-Anglong West, Golaghat, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Majuli, Charaideo Karimganj, Sivasagar, Hailakandi, Cachar and Dima Hasao 27,630 hectare of kharif crops have been damaged.
As per report, over 11.46 people are affected and 46 people was killed in the region. A total of 6,000 houses were damaged and 1500 villages are affected. Over three hundreds animals are killed in floods.
Facing the brunt of devastation and rain fury, Karnataka has recorded as many as 161 human deaths and 3.50 lakh people are affected in 11 districts, including Udupi,Uttara, Kannada, Dakshina, Kodagu, Hassan, Mysore, Shivamogga, Bellary.
Over 12,000 houses were damaged and 800 animals have been died. As per preliminary report, 4,000 hectare of crops was damaged till August 20. As many as 110 people have died due to lightning strikes with another 37 deaths due to house or tree falls while the rest of died due to drowning.
In Uttar Pradesh 40,000 hectare crops in Faizabad, Farrukhabad, Bijnor, Kanpur Dehat, Behraich, Gonda, Banrabanki, Kanpur Nagar, lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Pilibhit, Mau, Siddharthnagar, Kushinagar,Basti districts are destroyed due to flood and rains. As many as 195 people are died and 2.26 lakh people are affected.
