Presidential order issued approving new zonal system in Telangana

Friday, 31 August 2018 | Omer Farooq | Hyderabad

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s recent mission to Delhi finally yielded a good result with the President of India giving his nod to a new zonal system for Telangana. The new system under which the state will have seven zones and two multi-zones will come into effect as soon as the State Government issues a notification shortly.

The Presidential order approving the new zonal system was published in extraordinary Gazette of India on Thursday.

The new zonal system was of crucial importance for the state as it would pave the wave for large scale recruitments on the Government jobs.

Under the new system, which replaces the 43 year old system prevalent in undivided Andhra Pradesh,  95% Government jobs in a zone will go to the local candidates and 5% will be in open category for which the candidates from all the zones can compete.

This was one of the many pending issues the Chief Minister had raised with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh during his recent visit to the national capital and sought its early resolution.

State Government argued before the center that the new zonal system had become necessary as the old administrative structure was reorganised increasing the number of districts in Telangana from 11 to 31. Moreover the jobs for locals was the main planks for the separate Telangana State demand.
