It is official now: Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani’s daughter Isha will enter into wedlock with billionaire industrialist Ajay Piramal’s son Anand at a private traditional ceremony to be held at Ambanis’ Cumballa Hill residence "Antilia" in south Mumbai on December 12.
In a joint statement issued here in the evening, Ambanis and Piramals stated: “We are delighted to share that the marriage of Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal will take place in the residence of Shri Mukesh Ambani and Smt. Nita Ambani in Mumbai with family members and close friends on 12th December, 2018”.
According to the two families, the ceremonies will be performed in accordance with Indian traditions, customs and culture.
During the weekend prior to the wedding, the Ambani and Piramal families will host their friends and family in Udaipur, where “they are partnering with artisans and craftsmen to integrate local culture and traditions into the festivities”
“Both families seek the blessings and good wishes of everyone for Isha and Anand as they start their journey of togetherness,” the statement issued jointly by Nita, Mukesh Ambani, Swati and Ajay Pirmal said.
Ahead of the formal announcement about the Isha-Anand wedding, Mukesh, wife Nita, youngest son Anant and family matriarch Kokilaben Ambani had gone to the famous Siddhivinayak temple at Prabhadevi in north-central Mumbai on Monday night to offer the first invitation for Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal's wedding to the presiding lord Ganesh. Earlier in June this year, Ambanis had offered the first invite for Akash Ambani and Shloka Mehta's engagement at the same temple.
The much-awaited wedding announcement comes a month after the two business families celebrated the couple’s formal engagement in Italy’s Lake Como, where Isha and Anand exchanged rings. The event was attended by several Bollywood personalities.
It may be recalled that in May this year, Anand Pirmal had proposed to Isha at a temple in the hill station of Mahabaleshwar in western Maharashtra. Isha and Anand had celebrated the happy occasion at a luncheon get-together with their respective parents Nita, Mukesh Ambani, Swati and Ajay Piramal, Isha’s grandparents, Kokilaben Ambani and Purnimaben Dalal.
Also present on the occasion were Isha’s twin brother Akash, younger brother Anant, Anand’s sister Nandini and other family members.
Both the Ambani and Pirmal families have known each well for than four decades now.
Anand, who holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from University of Pennsylvania and a Masters in Business Administration degree from Harvard Business School, is the founder of Piramal Realty, one of the country’s leading real estate companies.
Piramal Realty is the second start-up that Anand founded after passing out of the Harward business school.
Anand – who is also the Executive Director of the Piramal Group –had earlier launched Piramal Swasthya, a rural healthcare initiative that treats 40,000 patients a day.
Anand served as the youngest president Youth Wing of the Indian Merchant Chamber.
Isha, twin sister of Akash Ambani, is on the Boards of Reliance Jio and Reliance Retail and is credited widely with instilling a culture of youthful dynamism in the business.
Isha holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and South Asian Studies from Yale University. She will be completing her Master in Business Administration programme from the Graduate School of Business, Stanford by June.
