Baijal inaugurates Nakshatra Vatika in Rohini

lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Tuesday inaugurated the first of its kind "Nakshatra Vatika" on Tuesday. The Vatika has been developed by North Delhi Municipal Corporation in Panchkarma hospital premises in Rohini, with an aim to treat the patients through plants depicting Nakshtras.

Situated at Rohini Sector-19, the vatika boasts of 43 types of particular tree variety that represents respective planets and has been placed according to the astronomical direction. Visitors can sit under the tree according to their zodiac sign for relaxation and mental peace.

Baijal while addressing the gathering appreciated the concept of using trees as per Nakshtra for treatment. He also stressed the need of planting and protecting trees.

He further stated that Ayurvedic system of medicines is more economical option of treatment with no side effects. He praised mayor for taking such initiatives and termed her as an "active mayor with youthful nature".

Preety informed that there are 27 Nakshatras as per astrology and there is a specified plant for each Nakshatra. "The visitors may sit beside the tree according to his zodiac sign for relaxation, mental peace and engage in therapeutic treatment offered by Ayush Department.  She further appealed the citizens to develop at least one park in their locality as Nakshatra Park.

Combination of astrology and ayurveda can also be used for protection of various diseases, said Agarwal, adding many of the effective medicines are being made out of various plants, herbs and roots. Also these plants help in purifying air and keep the surrounding positive and energetic.

"The vatika is an ideal place for doing yoga under the tree of their zodiac signs. We are also taking steps to promote yoga here with an aim to benefit a large section of the society," she said.

A senior NMC official said a small circle which represents each a Nakshatra (Stars) has been planted with a representative tree of that particular star. A total of 43 trees representing Navgrahs, Rashi and Nakshatra are present in the garden.

 Mayor of North Delhi Preety Agarwal, Commissioner Madhup Vyas and Director (Horticulture) Ranbir Singh were also present on the occasion. They also planted trees to mark the inauguration of Nakshatra Vatika in the garden.
