SMRC honours 20 kids with disabilities

The Shanta Memorial Rehabilitation Centre (SMRC) observed its 32nd foundation day here on Tuesday.

Prior to the programme, talent hunt competitions were organised among children with disabilities of 10 special schools of the twin city of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. About 200 children had participated.

Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Department Secretary Niten Chandra and renowned disability activist Jeeja Ghose graced as guests and felicitated 20 children of different schools for their talent.

Ghose delivered the 5th Ashok Hans Memorial lecture and presented a documentary on her life story.

Visually-impaired Sanyasi Behera, who got OAS recently, was also felicitated on the occasion.

Among others, Centre for Women’s Development Studies worker Renu Adalakha, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai’s Associate Prof Sandhya limaye, Psychologist Ratnaboli Ray, Institute of Development Studies, Kolkata’s Assistant Prof Nandini Ghose and first visual impairment comedian Nidhi Goyal were present.

SMRC programme manager Reena Mohanty gave a vote of thanks.
