Roadshows in Surat to woo domestic companies for GIS

Sunday, 05 February 2017 | Sanjeev Jha | Ranchi

The Industries Department organised a road-show in Surat (Gujrat) to woo local textile companies on Saturday. Mines and Industries Department Secretary Sunil Kumar Barnwal said on Thursday that the road-show led by Department Director K Ravi Kumar received immense response from the show.

“We are receiving overwhelming response from local companies eager to be a part of first ever Global Investor Summit (GIS) in the State. It is also pleasing to know that many among them who have visited Jharkhand previously for one reason or the other, have positive image and memories of the State and its natural beauty,” said Ravi Kumar on Thursday from Surat.

The series of road-shows which started last year to woo global investors with  Chief Minister Raghubar Das visiting USA and Singapore is in final stages with the government departments organising such shows in domestic market. Before Surat on Saturday, a team led by Barnwal organised a road-show in Kolkata amongst foundry business there.

Meanwhile, in a bid to provide guests coming in Global Investor Summit (GIS) unmatched comfort, a one day workshop for probable liaising Officers was organised in Project Bhawan today. Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan State Project Director cum Industries, Mines & Geology Department OSD Mukesh Kumar launched the workshop by emphasising on prospective role of liaising officers during the preparation of GIS.

Every detail was discussed in length pertaining to summit which might be helpful in bolstering spirit conducive to investment in Jharkhand.  He also detailed about the responsibilities of liaising officers towards the logistic arrangement during Global Investors Summit and mentioned that liaising officers will be instrumental in projecting the state’s image as first point of contact.

To support the visitors attending the summit in a seamless manner, Government has planned to provide a liaising officer along with a security officer from the police force. This liaising will be allotted a vehicle to take the visitors to the summit and help them reach the place where arrangements have been made for their stay. Various officers from Department of Industries, Mines & Geology as well as Probationary officers from Jharkhand Administrative Services (JAS) and Jharkhand Financial Services (JFS) have been identified to support the state as liaising officers.

Workshops are being conducted on equipping the liaising officers with information on the details of the summit as well as on policies and initiatives being taken under ‘Ease of Doing Business’. A snapshot of the initiatives and policies is also being provided to the liaising officers.

As it is the first time that the summit is being organised in the State, liosoning officers are very enthusiastic about the role that they will be playing. Issues related to good etiquettes, standard procedures to coordinate with the visiting delegates and internal team coordination were discussed in details. Queries from officers were resolved in the workshop. Next round of training is expected in the coming week.

This is the third workshop in the series. Two such workshops for about 150 officers from Department of Industry, Mines and Geology participated were organised on Jan 28 at Nepal House.

Consultants from Ernst &Young made a presentation on initiatives undertaken in the state for ‘Ease of Doing Business’.
