Renowned theatre director, Ram Gopal Bajaj, will be conferred with the National Kalidas Award instituted by the Madhya Pradesh government in the field of theatre. This award was announced by the state government.
It is to be noted that this award is provided for various aspects of theatre in excellence, long spiritual practice and continuous creation. Besides, earlier a meeting of the selection committee was held in New Delhi. Senior colleagues Mohan Maharishi, Vimal lath, Jaidev Taneja, Sanjay Upadhyay and lokendra Trivedi were present in this meeting.
The selection committee recommended Ram Gopal Bajaj's name with unanimous decision. The State Government, considering the recommendation of the selection committee as paramount, decided to give this honor to Bajaj for year 2017. Under this honour, cash award of Rs 2 lakhs is given to the awardee.
The award will be given to Ram Gopal Bajaj in the presence of dignitaries at All India Kalidas Festival to be held in Ujjain on October 31.
Notably, Bajaj was the Director of National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi. He has played an important role in organising prestigious theatre activities like NSD's Bharat Rang Mahotsav. He is recognized for his brilliant theatre works across the nation. From the Surya ki antim kiran se surya ki pehli kiran tak, Skandagupta, Qaid-e-Hayat, Ek Din Ashad Ka and to name a few are some of his masterpieces.
He has also translated Girish Karnad's play Rakt Kalyan in Hindi. He has also played important roles in many productions. Bajaj is a very effective actor who, from time to time, is successful in making his mark in many films and serials in specific characters.
