Pvt schools told to submit BPl quota admission list by Jan 31

Monday, 16 January 2017 | PNS | Ranchi

The District Superintendent of Education (DSE), Ranchi, has issued instructions to all the private schools functioning across the Capital City to submit the details of all admitted BPl children at their respective schools by January end.

The step is taken to ensure the authenticity in admission procedure where a large number of private schools claim to admit deprived kids following the guidelines of Right to Education (RTE) norms, 2009 every year.

“January 25 is the last date for submitting the application forms at respective private schools. All schools have been instructed to compile the details of all BPl children admitted this academic year. A list of approximately 314 BPl students was submitted at DSE office in 2016. As per the records, private schools received around 600 application forms last year whereas in 2015 as many as 350 application forms were received,” said, Ranchi DSE, Shivendra Kumar.

“Separate application forms with 12 clauses have been given to school managements. Earlier, school managements never used to submit details on time that created hurdle is monitoring the ratio of BPl kids admitted at various private schools and in maintaining the record of accomplishment. Norms have been modified for private schools as well,” added Kumar.

On the other hand, several private schools in Ranchi have begun the exercise of admitting BPl kids in their respective cradles, “Admission notices have been put outside the school gate. Every year, the school management receives good number of applicants from BPl category. In 2015, we had admitted 10 BPl kids while in 2016 eight children got admission here,” said, Principal, Surendranath Centenary School, Samita Sinha.

State CBSE Coordinator and Guru Nanak School Principal, Manohar lal, said, “Admission forms at present are being given to BPl kids. Soon, the scrutiny process will get complete for admitting them as per the instructions. Out of 50 seats at preparatory level, this year 12 seats are reserved for deprived kids.”

The RTE Act envisages that all poor children must be given free and compulsory education within their neighborhood or within a set radius. However, it can be relaxed with the consent of school principals. Meanwhile, the State government has cleared the reimbursement fees meant for the BPl students, said DSE. The State cabinet had approved the state HRD department’s proposal to refund private schools Rs 425 per month per BPl student admitted under the RTE Act.

“Funds will be released soon and will be reimbursed accordingly to all the private schools imparting education to poor kids. Approximately, 70 per cent amount has been retrieved for the purpose,” added, Kumar.
