Odisha's Purnima bags bronze

Monday, 10 July 2017 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

In a big disappointment for sports lovers of Odisha, the State's sprinters Dutee Chand, Srabani Nanda and Amiya Mallick failed to win any medals in 200 metres women and men events at the Asian Athletic Championships at the Kalinga Stadium here on Sunday.

While Dutee and Srabani were ranked fourth and fifth, respectively, in the final of women 200 metres sprint, Amiya Mallick too disappointed his fans by finishing seventh in the men 200 metres event. He clocked 21.03 seconds.

However, good news was that Odisha's Purnima Hembram won a bronze in the women's heptathlon event. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated Purnima for the achievement.
