The Right to Information (RTI) Act is a strong instrument to fight against corruption, but its purpose has not gone down the mass to ensure a corruption-free society.
This grim reality calls for a massive awareness and public participation in a bigger way, speakers said on the opening day of a seven-day-long campaign launched by the Odisha Soochna Adhikar Abhiyan, Rourkela Chapter here on Saturday.
The campaign has been sketched for creating awareness on the practical application of the RTI Act through seminars and workshops in various organisations including educational institutes.
The programme was formally launched by BJP State secretary Dhiren Senapati. A former Chairman of Rourkela Municipality.
Kalandi Badajena was the guest of honour. President of Kosal Janata Dal (KJD) Baidyanath Mishra presided.
Scores of RTI activists including Major Akshaya Samal, Chakranta Jena, Dhaneswar Das, Swarup Mishra, Surama Mishra, Ranjan lenka, Kailash Sabat, Randhir lenka, Arun lenka, Prasant Kumar Nayak, Binod Chandra Rout, laxmipriya Rout, Soumya Ranjan Rout, Rupali Priyadarshini, Rudra Narayan Mallick, Ranjita Mallick, lipsa Sahoo, Umesh Bhanja, Gurudeb Tiwari, Amit Kumar Beck, Saroj Parida, Rabindranath Pothal were present in the launch ceremony held at the Netaji Subash Chandra Bose Park.
