The Postal Department, Uttarakhand Circle has launched on Monday an international tracked packet service for 12 countries of the Asia Pacific region using which anyone can send shipments overseas at affordable costs with tracking and tracing facilities.

Notably, the department is now observing Postal Week that started on Friday and would continue till October 14. The objective of the celebration of the Postal Week is to create awareness about the role of the postal sector in the lives of the people aside from its contribution to the social and the economic development.

"This new service has many features like affordable price, track and trace, volume discounts, pick-up facility and compensation for loss or damage. The service would help boosting business, resulting into more revenue coming into the Government coffer to be used for development,” said chief postmaster general Uttarakhand Circle Uday Krishan after the service was launched.

He added that under this service, any citizen can send packet weighing two kg to any of the 12 countries.

Krishan further said that observance of the Postal Week is aimed at generating a broader awareness about the significant role the postal department has been playing for the people.

“As part of the Postal Week observance, several progammes like post forum meeting and customers’ meeting are being arranged. Students are now visiting the post offices to see how things are run here. We are focusing on post saving accounts, rural post life insurance and the like,” he said.

He further informed said that 76.03 per cent of the total target in terms of revenue has been achieved between January and August in the current financial year, a figure which makes Uttarakhand Circle the second in the country.

“Uttarakhand Circle has achieved cent percent target of the social security scheme named as Atal Pension Scheme and has become the only circle of the country to achieve the same in the year 2016-17.  Regarding opening of accounts by girls under Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, Uttarkhand Circle has emerged as the top in the State-wise list. Around 29.36 per cent of the girls from Uttarakhand have opened accounts under the scheme. Besides, from 67 post offices, lED bulbs are being sold.
