HPPCl MD becomes new BBMB chairman

Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation limited (HPPCl) managing director Devendra Kumar Sharma has been appointed as the Bhakra Beas Management Committee (BBMB) chairman.

The appointment committee of the Union Cabinet has approved the proposal and The Union Ministry of Power is likely to issue formal order on Tuesday. 

The appointment has been made for a period of three years on deputation basis from the date of assuming charge. Sharma will also hold the additional charge of the post of Beas Construction Board’s general manager.

BBMB manages the release of water in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan as it controls Bhakra, Pong and other dams.

Having over 30 years of association with the power sector, Sharma has worked with the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board for a long time and then was instrumental in implementing and commissioning of Tata Hydro Power Station in Bhutan which also opened the Indo- Bhutan association in the hydro power sector.

Sharma was also associated with the industrial giant larsen and Toubro (l&T) for a long time in its infrastructure development projects. He is recognized for his acumen in implementing power stations in the country.
