Devendra Kumar Sharma, Managing Director, Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation ltd., joined as Chairman, Bhakra Beas Management Board, on Friday.
Having more than 35 years of experience in energy sector in India and abroad, Sharma did his graduation in civil engineering from University of Indore in 1981 and received the Netherlands Govt. fellowship in 1982 for studying Master of Engineering in Water Resources Engineering from the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand.
He has undergone training courses in hydropower planning and design engineering from Canada (1987), Sweden (1989), Hungry (1991), Japan (1994) and Norway (1999 & 2003). He received UNESCO fellowship in 1991 for ‘International Post Graduate Course in Hydrology’ from Water Resources Research Institute (VITUKI), Budapest, Hungary.
Previously he was working as Managing Director and Member of the Board of Himachal Power Corporation ltd. (a Govt. of Himachal Pradesh Undertaking) since 2012. As MD of HPPCl, he has been responsible for commissioning of 3x65 MW Kashang Hydroelectric Project and has completed 100 M Sainj Project. He has brought in accountability and efficiency into the system and have converted a very young organisation into a fast upcoming power generating utility with the technical and organizational capabilities at par with any Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) working in energy sector in India.
