Cops, JSEB fine consumers for power theft in Jaridih

With Jharkhand electricity department and Jaridih cops acting tough, 5 household, commercial and agricultural consumers were caught stealing electricity here on Thursday. Around `2 lakh was realized as fine from them and also lodged an FIR against them at Jaridih police station, said Officer-in charge Radha Kumari.

According to reports provided by officer-in charge Radha Kumari, during the course of the surprise inspection on Thursday, members of the flying squid of Jharkhand state electricity board and the cops of Jaridih police detected the theft of energy involving meter bypass in industrial service and household extended to Jaridih circle in Bermo sub-division.  Provisional assessment amounting to around `2lakhs in favour of Vish Mahto,Jagu Mahto,Raj Kishor Mahto,Mewa Kumar Mahto,and Basudeo Mahto were levied in lieu of theft of energy detected and the same was paid by the consumers ,and also case18/17 has been registered with Jaridih police station under the section 379,of IPC ,the officer-in charge Radha Kumari Said.

While the electricity department general manager cum chief engineer  said ,electricity theft is a big burden on the JSEB .We have observed in the past that because of hooking  connections ,many times problems of short circuit, overloading or damaging of wires took place ,cause inconvenience to consumers.
