Biotechnology researches play an important role for health and disease management,” said Health, Family Welfare and law Minister Pratap Jena at the 9th annual meeting of the Proteomics Society of India (PSI) and three-day international conference on Health and Diseases at the Institute of life Sciences (IlS) here on Thursday.
Jena praised the efforts of IlS and other advanced research organisations and expressed confidence that these would contribute significantly towards developing appropriate therapy and drug design for larger benefit of the society.
Jena also expressed the desire of the State Government to partner with advanced research institutions for improving health status of the local tribal and rural populations.
IlS Director Dr Ajay Parida said the IlS has been carrying out advanced research in area of cancer biology, infectious diseases and plant and environment biotechnology. In coming days, the IlS will focus on locally relevant issues with a global outlook, he added.
Rajiv Gandhi Centre of Biotechnology, Thiruvananthapuram Director Dr Radhakrishna Pillai said biotechnology approaches are absolutely crucial for addressing many problems facing the humankind.
Among others, Dr Utpal Tatu from Indian Institute of Sciences, Bangalore and Dr Amol Suryavanshi were present. About 300 scientists and researchers from all over the country are participating in the meet.
