The little robotic dance wonder

12-year-old Muskan Sharma, a Super Dancer 2 contestant from Indore, tells SHAlINI SAKSENA  how she got interested in robotic dance style

She is just 12 but when this dancer is on the floor, she is sure to give even the best of adult dancers a run for their money. Meet Muskan Sharma, one of the contestant’s from Super Dancer 2. What makes her stand out from the other dancers of her age is that she probably the only young robotic dancer in the country.

Her love for this dance style began when she was much younger. “I love dancing and have been doing so since I was a toddler. My mother was my first teacher, that was the time when I was not taking formal training. I started taking proper training only two years back. There was a time when I had given up dancing. I felt that I was missing out on my studies. It was during this time that I was hooked on to watching videos on the Internet. My inspiration was Dytto, an international robotic dancer. At first, I didn’t understand this dance,” this Chameli Devi Public School student of Class VI recalls.

She then went to her mother to understand this dance style and then her dance guru who told her the intricacies involved. “He told me that I had to have a stiff stance. I had to follow a  strict routine. Though I was taught a few steps, I would practise a lot at home. My mother helped me in this,” Muskan says.

Interestingly, while robotic dance style is tough, Muskan tells you philosophically that there are no dance steps that a dancer can’t do. “The only requirement is that one needs to doggedly pursue what one has decided to follow,” Muskan tells you.

The reason why she chose this dance style over all others was because she wants to make Indore and in turn India proud by representing the country on an international platform. The fact that this style has not been seen in India before was another reason.

Her problem, she tells you that she is overconfident. “My downfall is my over confidence and if I lose it will be because of this and not because of the other contestants who are like my brother and sisters,” Muskan says with confidence, who tells you that unlike most parents who insist on studies, her parents want her to pursue her passion.

Muskan has become quite popular back home. So much so that her friends have started taking dance lessons. “My friends, teachers and the principal have been extremely supportive. Since I am away and missing out on studies, they all pitch in and fill me what has been done. Once I am done with the shooting and training, I sit down to catch up with the studies,” Muskan says who was also part of Season 1 but didn’t go far in the competition.

This time, she is confident that her chances of winning are 1,000 per cent!
