Anuja Sathe, who plays Radhabai in Peshwas Bajirao, tells Rachita Malhotra that she relates to her character as she has a strong personality.
Tell us about your character in the serialIJ
I play Radhabai, Bajirao’s mother. She is a very strong and compassionate woman. You will see how Bajirao’s parents despite knowing that he would not live for long, prepare him to be the best.
You have done another daily soap before this, Tamanna. How do you think Peshwa Bajirao is differentIJ
In Tamanna, I was portraying a very strong woman. Tamanna was opposite of what Radhabai is. In Peshwa Bajirao, I have a feminine side. I am wearing a lot of heavy Maharashtrian jewellery and sari which I have not done before. Also, I am a very different person in real life. I am a tomboy and don’t even wear earrings.
How is movie Bajirao Mastani different from the serialIJ
Bajirao Mastani was more of a love story of Bajirao. In the serial, we are not focusing only on the love story, we want to show how a young child becomes a Peshwa and how his parents support him in his journey. Bajirao was a great warrior and in the serial the focus is on his greatness.
Do you relate to the roles in Tamanna & Peshwa BajiraoIJ
I do. There are a lot of similarities. Tamanna was about a girl who lived her dream; I am like that in real life. Radhabai in Peshwa Bajirao is compassionate. Her family means everything to her. Family is important for me too. I have a strong personality and therefore love to portray such roles.
What are your plans for the futureIJ
As of now, I am focusing on Peshwa Bajirao because it becomes very difficult to manage two shows at once. Once I am done with this show, I will see what is in the pipeline then. I would love to do a movie as well.
What about your co-starsIJ
We met on the show for the first time, but we have an amazing chemistry. Manishji (Wadhwa) is very helpful. All of us including the director and the producers are one big family.
How does it feel to wear a Maharashtrian attireIJ
I am from Maharashtra. The sari and the jewellery is very close to my heart. I have seen my mother wear the sari in that style. But I am myself not very comfortable wearing it on a daily basis since it is a bit tedious.
