With the intention of seeking undue favours from the Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) KV Chowdary, a conman identifying himself as Dr Krishna Kumar, Director in Prime Minister’s Office (PMO)) along with another man who identified himself as Savitur Prasad, Additional Controller General in Ministry of Defence, came to meet him. The CVC refused their request as it was outside his domain.
Both gave their respective visiting cards to T Jaganaddha Rao, the Personal Assistant of the CVC. Taken in by the designation ‘Director, PMO, Government of India’ along with the GOI logo on the visiting card, the CVC called the duo in.
What both the PA and CVC did not notice was that the visiting card of Kumar had his office address printed as ‘Room number 152, South Block, Raisina Hill, New Delhi-110011’ which is the office room of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“After meeting the CVC, accused Kumar lauded certain good work done by the CVC related to the Income Tax department and gave references of two or three Income Tax officers that he knew. But Chowdary said he was not aware of them,” said a police source.
Thereafter, Kumar pointed towards his companion Savitur Prasad, and complained to the CVC saying that Prasad, despite being an Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS) officer and the senior most in his department, is not allocated any important work and that grave injustice is being done to him. “We need your intervention in this matter,” he told the CVC.
“Choudary immediately said that he could not do anything about it as allocation of work is the prerogative of the head of the organisation, which in this case is the Ministry of Defence,” said the police officer, tasked with the probe.
After trying for some more time, when Kumar could not persuade the CVC anymore, both of them took his leave. The CVC got suspicious due to their conduct and behaviour and contacted the PMO for verification.
He was shocked to learn that no person with the name of Dr Krishna Kumar works in PMO. The CVC also learnt that room number 152 South Block, printed on the visiting card was the room of the Prime Minister.
“We also found out that the residence address of his visiting card which was printed as A-135 Pandara Road, belonged to Ms S Arora who works as programmer in Education Department of Delhi Government since 1992. The visiting card also had a landline number which related to the PMO and was allocated to a senior officer of PMO,” the police officer further said.
Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik was immediately called up and was briefed about the case that was serious in nature. Patnaik then asked Special Cell, the Anti-terror Unit to investigate the case and bring the fraudsters to justice.
An FIR has been registered in this regard and investigation has been taken up. The Special Cell has launched a manhunt for the two accused who are currently absconding, sources added.
