For the first time, 372 students of Delhi Government-run schools have cleared this year’s prestigious Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) compared to last year when some 40 to 50 students were able to sail through. It mean there is 644 to 830 per cent increase.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal met the successful students on Tuesday and lauded their achievements.
Deputy Chief Minister Sisodia told The Pioneer, “The number of students of the Delhi Government-run schools, who cracked prestigious JEE, was negligible. last year, some 40 to 50 students had made it. But this year it is due to better education system aided by the continuous monitoring, students performed better. We are in the process of devising study modules for the students to help them crack more national-level examinations.”
“There are 29 students from the Government school, Sector-9 Rohini, 27 students from Government School Yamuna Vihar (1) and 17 students of Yamuna Vihar (2), who have cleared IIT-JEE mains,” Sisodia said.
Kejriwal spoke about how the “transformative work” in the education sector undertaken by the Delhi Government has changed parents outlook about Government schools.
“They would avoid sending children to Government schools, but have now begun to see them in positive light. The children being felicitated at the programme were a consequence of this effort. Children studying in Government schools have become confident. You have set a strong example for your juniors by performing so brilliantly,” said the CM.
He appealed to the students to never forget their country after becoming successful engineers.
