KMP E-way work may be over by July

Monday, 06 March 2017 | PNS | New Delhi

After missing several deadlines in the past, the Kundli, Manesar and Palwal stretch of the Western Peripheral Expressway (WPE) is expected to be completed by June this year while the entire 135-km stretch of the project is likely to be finished by July 2018.

About 70 per cent of the civil work on the 83-km stretch between Manesar and Kundli has been completed and the remaining construction is expected to be done by June, this year. The process of layering clay one after another followed by concretisation is currently underway and construction of bridges is going on simultaneously.

The work on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) too started in UP last year.

The two six-lane Expressways - each about 135-km-long - were planned in 2006 following a Supreme Court order to form a ring road outside Delhi for channeling non-Delhi bound traffic, bypassing the national Capital.

The WPE and EPE were supposed to be completed by 2010. The WPE missed numerous deadlines till date due to financial disputes between

the then concessionaire D S Construction, the lender, and the Congress government. After the BJP government came to power in Haryana and at the Centre, the remaining project was given to Easel Construction ltd and HlS ltd. The total cost of these two expressway is `5,673 crore.

“Since, we did not face much hurdles apart from land acquisition at Kundli for grade separator, the construction of the remaining project is expected to complete in the next 75 days,” said the sources.

“The seven-km concretisation of lower layer has been completed from Pachgaon to Pataudi road crossing where construction of flyover is underway and both will be completed simultaneously in the next three months. Similarly, the construction of concrete layer between Pataudi road to Farukhnagar is completed and flyover work is underway,” sources said.

Vehicles coming in from the northern States on National Highway-1 and wanting to go to States like Rajasthan and Gujarat can get on the expressway at Kundli and take the NH-8 at Manesar, while those desiring to go to central and south India can get on

to the NH-2 at Palwal. In both the cases, long distance vehicles do not need to come inside Delhi. As far as WPE is concerned, it is being built at investment of `2,545 crore starts from NH-1 near Kundli (Sonipat) crossing NH-10 at west of Bahadurgarh, crossing NH-8 at Manesar (Gurgaon) and joining NH-2 near Palwal (Faridabad).

“As far as Eastern Peripheral Expressway is concerned, the works have already been started on the stretch. The acquisition of land work is being given final shape,” said the sources.
