Main Opposition YSR Congress party has suffered major setback in Andhra Pradesh legislative Council elections as its candidate was defeated in the party president YS Jaganmohan Reddy’s home district Kadapa.
TDP bagged all the three council seats from local Authorities Constituencies for which the elections were held on March 17 and votes were counted on Monday.
With this the ruling part swept all the 9 seats of legislative council. Earlier last week it had bagged six seats unanimously as all other candidates had withdrawn from the contest.
In what was being seen as a big blow to YSR family in Kadapa, TDP candidate Btech Ravi defeated YS Vivekananda Reddy with a narrow margin of 33 votes. Vivekananda Reddy is the uncle of Jaganmohan Reddy.
In neighboring Kurnool district TDP candidate Shilpa Chakrapani defeated G Venkat Reddy of YSRCP by a majority of 56 votes. In Nellore V Narayana Reddy of TDP defeated Anam Vijayakumar Reddy by a majority of 87 votes.
The results declared on Monday brought cheers to the ruling party specially in the Rayalaseema region which was seen as the stronghold of the YSRCP. The party workers celebrated the results by bursting crackers and distributing sweets.
The results were likely to increase the internal problems for Jaganmohan Reddy in his party.
