Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal Khattar inaugurated the newly built Hero Honda Chowk flyover on Monday. This will help Gurugram traffic police in managing traffic. The 1.4 km flyover is part of a three-layered crossing involving the flyover, underpass and surface road.
The Gurugram-Jaipur side of the flyover was already opened to traffic in March, while on July 24 the Jaipur-Gurugram side of the flyover was also open for commuters.
The construction of the Rs 198 crore flyover project began in November 2014 and set a deadline of 30 months. The entire project was built by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).
The Hero Honda Chowk, on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway, is one of the most congested portions of the expressway and had hit the headlines last monsoon when traffic was stuck for several hours on the National Highway-48.
The flyover will benefit the residents of the areas around the flyover and nearest sectors. More than 45,000 to 50,000 vehicles are expected to use the flyover daily.
Commuting between Jaipur and Delhi via Gurugram and Manesar has also become smooth and hassle-free with the opening of the eight-lane Hero Honda Chowk flyover.
“Traffic management during the construction period of the flyover had been a big challenge for us. During the rainy season we were trying to manage the traffic with full efforts,” Chander Prakash, Traffic Inspector, at the Hero Honda Chowk, said.
With the eight-lane flyover likely to ensure smooth traffic flow, local commuters will find it easy to move from one side of the expressway to the other. “We are excited that the flyover is now open to traffic almost on time. The flyover will give relief to the industrial areas. The trial run was also successful,” NHAI project director, Ashok Kumar Sharma, said.
