A woman Maoist carrying a reward of `2 lakh on her head was gunned down following an encounter with security forces in a forested patch of insurgency-hit Sukma district, police said here on Monday.

“The encounter took place between a joint team of Special Task Force (STF) and District Reserve Group (DRG) in the jungles located in Gompad and Gorkha villages under Konta police station limits,” Superintendent of Police (SP), Sukma, Indira Kalyan Elesela said.

While carrying out an Anti-naxal operation in the limits of Konta police station, located around 70 to 80 km away from district headquarters, the team spotted a group of armed Naxals in afternoon. Both the sides were then engaged in a gun battle. Soon the Maoists fled while taking advantage of the dense forests, he added.

later on, while searching the area, body of a woman Naxal along with a muzzle loading gun was recovered from the spot, the SP said.

The insurgent was identified as Madkam Hidme, a member of Kistaram area platoon number 8 of Maoists, he said while adding that as per the rule of Chhattisgarh Government, a reward of `2 lakh was declared over the head of a Naxal platoon member. “We are checking our records to find out in which major incidents she was wanted,” he mentioned.
