Days after senior Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala raised apprehensions regarding his security arrangements, Haryana Government on Wednesday said adequate security had been provided to the former minister.
In a reply to the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Haryana Superintendent of Police Surinder Singh said Randeep had been provided ‘Y’ category security since November 2014. No less than 11 cops were in his security, considering threat perception to his life on reports from the State and Central agencies.
Terming the petition to be an attempt to prevent the State from transferring Inspector Amrik Singh Chahal from his security, the SP concerned has said the stoppage of Inspector Chahal’s transfer would have administrative repercussions on the department.
Seeking security cover by Central Industrial Security force, in his petition Surjewala had said the suspicious escape of “dreaded gangster” Surinder Geong had posed threat for him. Surjewala had also raised a question on State Government’s timing of withdrawing his security, saying that the Director-General of Police, Haryana ordered for withdrawal of the inspector from his personal security, the day after the gangster escaped the jail.
