The federation of city bus owners of Dehradun has threatened to cease movement of city buses on important Premnagar-Parwal and Parade Ground routes and stop vehicular traffic around Clock Tower of the city from September 16 if the administration fails to stop illegal movement of Vikrams around the Clock Tower area.
On Wednesday, a delegation of the association met district magistrate (DM) of Dehradun. The delegation told DM that despite many assurances in past the Vikrams are still operating around Clock tower area.
The President of the association Vijay Vardhan Dandariyal said that the DM has directed the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) to act on the complaint.
“This is what he did last time but nothing has happened. Instead of taking action the administration is merely passing the buck around. This time we are determined to stop vehicular flow around Clock Tower,’’ he said.
The association is of the view that contract carriage vehicles like Vikrams are plying in spite of the fact that the Uttarakhand High Court in an order dated May 27, 2014 had clearly stated that the contract carriage vehicles like Vikrams should be stopped from picking retail costumers on selected routes.
Dandariyal said that a meeting of officers of transport department, police, traffic and representatives of bus, Vikram Tata magic was held on May 6 this year.
In the meeting it was decided that the Vikrams would not operate within 500 meter radius of Clock Tower and these vehicles would ply from Connaught place to Premnagar on Chakrata road.
He said that the police and administration have failed to implement this order due to which the city bus association has no option but to sit on a hunger strike and stop service around clock tower as mark of protest.
