Punjab SC commission takes suo motu notice

Chandigarh: Punjab Scheduled Castes Commission has taken a suo motu notice of two different news items published regarding murder of a youth and beating up of a pregnant woman. The Commission has sought a detailed report of the incidents from the Senior superintendent of  Police, Mansa. Rajesh Bagha, Chairman of Scheduled Casts Commission Punjab said as per two news reports published, a person Amandeep Singh R/O Meer pur Kalan (Sardulgarh) District Mansa was murdered with swords and sticks over an old enmity and in another case a pregnant woman of village Hodla Kalan District Mansa was brutally beaten up by the ruffians of a political leader Khuswant Singh Kaka.  Bagha said that the Commission has taken suo motto notice of the incidents and sought a detailed report from Senior Superintendent of Police, Mansa by January 21, 2016.

Officer caught while taking bribe

Chandigarh: Haryana State Vigilance Bureau has caught Durga Dutt, Block Development and Panchayat Officer at Siwani, district Bhiwani red-handed while accepting illegal gratification of Rs 20,000 from Mahabir Singh, contractor, resident of Kharkara, district Hisar in lieu of passing of bills. A case has been registered under sections 7 and 13 of Prevention of Corruption Act at the Bureau Police Station in Hisar.

Former PU V-C honoured

Chandigarh: Former Vice Chancellor & Professor Emeritus, Department of Physics, Panjab University (PU) Dr KN. Pathak has been awarded NASI (National Academy of Sciences, India) Senior Scientist platinum Jubilee Fellowship for his contribution in condensed matter physics. Prof Pathak would work on the theory of Bose Einstein condensation in cold atomic system in nano Calvin temperature rate. In addition he would work on transport properties nano materials. The award carries fellowship amount Rs 30,000/- month plus post of JRF/SRF/RA and contingency of Rs 1 lakh. Previously, he was holding Indian National Science Academy Senior Scientist position for last 5 years.

PU students introduced to scientific innovations

Chandigarh: Panjab University (PU) DST Inspire Internship Camp students visited Science Departments of PU for hands-on experiments in the University Museums, laboratories and Departments on Wednesday. The 721 DST Inspire Camp students got divided into six major groups for hands-on experiments at 10 science departments of PU along with visit to museum at zoology, geology and anthropology. As many as 65 imminent senior faculty mentors from PU guided and interacted with students during laboratory sessions in Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Geology, Anthropology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Microbiology & Biotechnology.

seven-day special camp concludes

Chandigarh: The NSS unit of SGGS College Sector 26 Chandigarh concluded its seven-day special camp on Sunday with a valedictory function. The function was inaugurated with ‘Shabad’ recitation by the NSS volunteers. Over 100 NSS volunteers and non-student participants had a rich experience from varied activities held during the camp. On the first day of the camp, poster-making on theme “Youth for Swacch Bharat” was followed by orientation of the participants. A theme rally and a survey was organised on the second day in the adopted village Kaimbwala followed be many other activities in rest of the five days.

Fiitjee’s general admission test on February 7
