'11% people of Ranchi suffering from psychological disorder'

Saturday, 12 November 2016 | Sanjeev Jha | Ranchi

Former Director of the Central Institute of Psychiatry, Ranchi Dr. S Haque Nizamie has said that the city reflected an alarming situation in terms of increasing number of mental disorder cases in a recent survey. Speaking at a programme organised by PHD Chamber of Commerce (Jharkhand) here today, he suggested the participants and others to take distress seriously and follow a healthy lifestyle to combat clinical disorders.

“As many as 11 per cent people of the city have been suffering from one psychological disorder or the other, which is not a good sign at all. It means that people are finding it difficult to cope with modern day lifestyle. However, we can manage it by Yoga and other exercises and maintain a healthy mind,” said Nizamie.

PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Jharkhand) in association with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) organised the Workshop on Time and Stress Management today. IIM Ranchi Assistant Professor (Strategic Management) Dr. Swarup Kumar Dutta highlighted the concept, meaning and method of time management in his key-note address. “Each and every individual needs to manage his/her time well to be successful in life. The first step towards time management is to set tangible goals by writing them down and breaking them into individual projects and to-do lists. Every item on the list then must be prioritized and assigned a deadline,” elaborated Dutta.

Though PHD Chamber of Commerce (Jharkhand) Chairman Pawan Bajaj couldn’t make to be present at the workshop due to some other urgent and important involvements, Co-Chairman Vishnu Rajgadia read out Chairman’s message on his behalf. He said that time management is not just about learning how to manage work better, but also about knowing how to manage leisure better. “It is about managing your entire life better. The people who are more successful than others are the ones who know how to manage their time well,” said Rajgadia.

PHD Chamber Director (States) Debjit Talapatra said at the occasion that employee stress was an increasing problem in organizations. “We hear about postal workers killing co-workers and supervisors and then we learn job-related tensions were a major cause. Friends tells us they’re stressed out from greater workloads and having to work longer hours because of downsizing at their company,” said Talapatra.

PHD Chamber Resident Manager JN Singh and Assistant Secretary Farha Tabassum were also present at the occasion among delegates from industry and participants from S N Sinha Business Management Institute (Bokaro), Women’s College (Ranchi) and many other organisations.
