A ‘whatsapped’ picture of Rahul Gandhi and Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee hemmed in by a huge garland at a Kolkata election rally provoked BJP president Amit Shah to refer to the unique photo-frame and take a mighty dig at what critics called bizarre bedfellows.
Taking potshots at the joint rally by the top Congress and CPI(M) leaders, Shah, also addressing an election meeting, said, “the people are getting steadily confused” by bizarre ways of the Congress and the left who were fighting each other in Kerala and playing the “IlU, IlU” in Bengal.
“I do not understand what kind of politics this is and what kind of parties they areIJ They fight in Kerala and do IlU IlU in West Bengal” he said. In 1980s Hindi film number IlU stood for “I love you.”
Attacking the Trinamool Congress for unleashing a reign of corruption and terror in Bengal he said, “Mamata Banerjee had come to power in the name of Maa Maati, Manush (mother, mother earth and people) but today it has metamorphosed into a Government of Bhai (fear) Bhoot (ghost voters) and Bhrashtachar (corruption).”
Raising the Narada issue Shah said that it was for every one to see how the “shameless leaders of a political party were taking bribe publicly in front of the camera” and yet they were given tickets. He added, “if Mamata Banerjee were her true former self she would have expelled the tainted leaders from her party.” But she preferred to continue with them and give them nomination which meant that she was backing the corrupt elements the saffron leader said.
Earlier PM Narendra Modi had also attacked Banerjee on issues of corruption: from Sharada to Narada.
