Three of family die as car rams into stationary truck

Three persons of a family died while two were grievously injured after their car rammed into a stationary truck on Noida’s Mahamaya flyover on Thursday late night. The family was returning from Delhi after attending a marriage ceremony, police said.

The deceased have been identified as Abhinav Mathur (38), his wife Priya Mathur (34) and father BS Mathur (72). Meanwhile, mother Nalini Mathur (71), Chintu the six-year-old-son of Abhinav were received grievous injuries. They are residents of B-block Sector-41, Noida. According to police, Abhinav worked as software engineer in a private company in Faridabad.

All the victims were rushed to Kailash Hospital in Sector-27 where doctors declared Priya Mathur and her father-in law BS Mathur brought death. Abhinav succumbed to his injuries on Friday morning. Doctors said that the condition of Chintu and his grandmother is critical and they are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The incident took place around 12 am when their i10 car coming from Delhi hit into a  truck on Mahamaya flyover.

Police said the impact of the incident was so high that the car got smashed from all sides. The local police said the car was badly mangled and they had to use gas cutter to pull out the victims.

Superintendent of Police, Noida Dinesh Yadav said, “The truck broke down on Mahamaya flyover. There were no reflectors at the back side of the truck and Priya who was driving the car could not notice the truck resulting in the terrible crash,” the SP added.
