Three weeks after he resigned as the editor of the Shiv Sena’s Hindi tabloid Dophar ka Saamana, senior journalist Prem Shukla formally joined the BJP.
Shukla announced his decision to join the BJP, after his return from New Delhi.
Shukla was inducted into the BJP at a function organised here in the presence of State unit BJP secretary (organisation) Ravindra Bhusari, city unit BJP chief Ashish Shelar and heads of various wings of the BJP.
Shukla, who was accorded a warm reception by the BJP youth workers at the city airport when he arrived from New Delhi, said that he would take any responsibility given to him by his new party leadership at the national level.
A few days ago, Shukla had met BJP President Amit Shah in the presence of Bhusari, Shelar and heads of various wings of the BJP.
Shukla, who started his career with Nirbhay Pathik, joined Dophar ka Saamna as chief reporter in 1993. He was appointed as the newspaper’s executive editor by Uddhav Thackeray in 2005, after his predecessor Sanjay Nirupam quit the Shiv Sena and later joined the Congress.
Shukla resigned as theeditor of Dophar ka Saamna, following his differences with Uddhav. Though he did not hold any position in the Shiv Sena, Shukla acted as Sena’s spokesperson in the Hindi print and electronic media. He had, however, been asked not to appear in television shows in the run-up to his resignation, following his differences with Uddhav.
