It was a proud moment for Delhi girl, Nidhi Gupta, who clinched third position in the civil services exam. Clearing the civil services examination was a dream come true for her. Nidhi, who had qualified for admission to the MBBS Course, had sacrificed the seat after witnessing a tragic road incident accident in 2009 and decided to become an IAS officer to change the system.
Recalling the incident which claimed a child’s life, Nidhi said that the present system is very complicated and not a people friendly. “People do not come forward to help accident victims because they fear harassment by police and getting entangled in unending legal complications,” said Nidhi while taking to The Pioneer at her residence in Uttam Nagar.
“Our system needs to be changed to make it more people friendly so that people come forward without any hesitations,” Nidhi said, adding they should not be made liable for any civil and criminal process. After witnessing the incident, her mother advised her to become an IAS officer so that she can bring the changes in system. Nidhi, who is presently Assistant Commissioner of Customs and Central Excise, was a topper in Class X and XII examinations.
While talking about the governance, Nidhi said, “India is emerging as super nation in the world. While bring collective growth, we should mind the physical, social and economic growth in a country.”
Appreciating ‘Beti Bacaho’ campaign initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Nidhi said that she wants to work on declining sex ratio in the country.
“The development of a nation will be half complete if half population are not treated equally. While preparing for the civil services exam, I came to know about poor status of the women who are reeling under severe malnutrition, hunger, illiteracy without getting proper health care facilities,” said Nidhi. In her message to other women, Nidhi said that every woman should believe in her abilities. “Nation’s progress will not be complete without the contribution of the woman,” he added.
Nidhi Gupta is a daughter of Mohan lal Gupta who works in the Ministry of Rural and Urban Development. The proud father gives the credit of Nidhi’s success to her mother. “My wife Priyam Vada Gupta is double MA and BEd qualified. She sacrificed her job and career for the betterment of our children. Today effort of my wife has paid. My daughter is an IAS officer just because of my wife,” said Mohal lal Gupta.
