To cater to the eye care needs of urban slums in the twin cities, the Sightsavers launched Urban Eye Health Programme here on Tuesday.
As part of the programme, Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena inaugurated a Primary Eye Care centre near Salia Sahi slum here at a function organised by Sightsavers. The centre will provide access to quality eye care services to economically-deprived people. Besides, it will ensure provision of complete eye care at primary and secondary levels. The services include eye checkup, vision screening, refraction, dispensing of glasses in free and subsidized rate and referral of patients to tertiary care centres, said Sightsavers India CEO RN Mohanty.
On this occasion, a specialised diabetic retinopathy equipment mounted on bike was also launched. It will screen diabetic patients with retinopathy problems.
