State, Hans foundation sign Rs500-cr MoU

The Uttarakhand Government and the Hans Foundation signed an agreement related to developmental programmes concerned with health, agriculture, education, forest, water, cleanliness and welfare of handicapped persons in presence of Chief Minister Harish Rawat at the CM’s residence on Monday. Chairperson of the Hans Foundation Sweta Rawat said that the foundation had decided to invest `500 crore after the 2013 deluge in inclusive social development sector in Uttarakhand.    

Additional Chief Secretary S Raju on behalf of Uttarakhand Government and CEO of The Hans Foundation S N Mehta signed on MoU. Many Other NGOs might join these programmes started under Vision 2020 of The Hans Foundation. Max India Foundation, Plan Foundation, American India Foundation, International Centre for Integrated Development, Himmthaun, CBM, Helpage India, Cry, Tata Sustainability Group, Charity’s and Foundation, International Fund for Agricultural Development and Azeem Premji Foundation are included in it.

In his address Chief Minister Harish Rawat said that this initiative would develop the coordination among Government, Hans Foundation and other NGOs. These workshops should be held every year. Chief Minister assured to organize these events perpetually. NGOs have significant role in Uttarakhand. NGOs work as catalyst in development process in the State. We get some additional better results through these initiatives. Participation of NGOs in the developmental process is helping in inclusive growth.

Giving details about some initiatives of State Government CM invited people to adopt children suffering mal-nutrition under the Khilti Kaliya program. As many people took initiative in this regard. If ideas are presented seriously before the people we may expect cooperation on large scale from society. Small initiatives may result in huge changes.  Declining maternal mortality rate (MMR) is being observed after State Government’s initiative to provide 2 kg Mandua, 1 Kg iodised salt and 1 Kg black bhatt to pregnant women. Demand for Mandua has increased due to its appropriate promotion. Chief Minister disclosed that President Pranab Mukherjee had asked about Mandua roti during an event. Our many Milk Cooperative Federations are earning profit on account of `4 per liter bonus being provided by State Government. We are moving towards inclusive growth through these small initiatives. Efforts are being made to purchase fibers of Kandali, Bheemal, Hump, Rambanse.

CM said the MoU would help the Government in Education, Health and Drinking water sectors. He expected the assistance of NGOs in Micro, Domestic and Small industries, Tourism, Preparing pre-fabricated structures for disaster prone regions, conservation of traditional crafts and culture.
