Pulse polio vaccine drops will be administered to children upto 5 years of age on Sunday — January 18. Principal Secretary Praveer Krishna reviewed preparations for the campaign and gave necessary directives here on Saturday. He called for earnest efforts to make campaign a success. It is noteworthy that of about 50 registered polio cases, 90 per cent pertain to India’s neighbouring countries Pakistan, Afghanistan etc. In view of apprehension of polio due to families’ movement between these countries, pulse polio campaign is being operated in India in right earnest. Polio drops will be administered to 1.14 crore targeted children in the State.
For this, about 80,000 booths have been set up. These will be manned by 1.60 lakh vaccinators. In all, 9000 transit teams in yellow shirt uniform will function. In the state, 1400 teams will be constituted to administer polio dose to children of Banjara and nomadic tribals.
Apart from railway stations and bus stands, dose will be administered at major crossings also. As many as 13,400 supervisors will monitor the campaign. On campaign’s second and third days, polio vaccine will be administered to left out children at schools and anganwadis. Thus, target has been set for health workers to reach out to 1.18 crore children.
Public Health and Family Welfare Minister Narottam Mishra has appealed to people of the state to bring children upto 5 years of age to pulse polio booths. The children not administered polio drops on January 18 will be administered the dose door-to-door on January 19 and 20.
Notably, despite no case of polio surfacing in the country, pulse polio campaign is being run constantly. like many other countries, India has also obtained polio eradication certificate from World Health Organisation. Despite this, pulse polio campaign is undertaken in the country from time to time to save children from this disease.
