Patalpani is popular but still unsafe for tourists

Tuesday, 14 July 2015 | PNS | Mhow

The State Government has spent more than `1.45 crore for developing Patalpani as a picnic spot, with which the fund was used for construction of public service centre and parking. However, for the safety of the hundreds of tourists who come to Patalpani everyday the Government has not done anything yet and only railing and warning board has been erected around the Patalpani.

According to police records more than 65 persons have been lost their life in Patalpani and nearby picnic spot of Mhow tehsil in past 10 years. In spite of the safety measures of the Government the people are risking their life at this picnic spot and trying to take their selfie with their mobile phones besides the dangerous spot and losing their life.

In 2011 four members of the family had lost their life when the sudden flow of water washed away the four members of family on Patalpani picnic spot and fell into the thousand feet deep gorge of the spring. Again in 2007, a boy and a girl student of Indore Institute of Management, Indore who were sitting on the rock in the middle of the choral river were washed away by the sudden flow of water. locals demanded that administration should deploy volunteers and police personnel and fine should be imposed on those who cross the danger zone on all the picnic spots of Mhow tehsil.

Former SDM Mhow Swati Meena took some strict action against to check the accidents on the picnic spots and she has made the committee of locals villagers who with the police use to keep the round the clock check on the tourist coming to Patalpani picnic spot and push them back from the danger zone of the picnic spot.
