Haridwar police forms WhatsApp group to keep vigil

The Haridwar police has turned to technology and formed a WhatsApp group to monitor and manage huge inflow of pilgrims during ‘Ganga Dussehra’ festival which is slated for  Thursday. The district administration has created a WhatsApp group and christened it as ‘Ganga Dussehra group’; all the police officials, zonal officers and gazetted officers are part of this group so that minute by minute information of the festival is shared among the group members.

The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Haridwar, Sweety Agarwal briefed the police force deployed on duties of back to back festivals of Ganga Dussehra and Nirjala Ekadashi on May 28 and 29 at auditorium of Rishikul Ayurvedic College at Haridwar on Wednesday. The SSP said that the traffic plan for the festivals should be known to everyone on duty. She asked zonal and sector magistrates to explain the duties to the teams and ensure miscreants are apprehended.

The Superintendent of police (SP) city, Surjeet Singh Panwar would function as Mela in charge for these festivals. The entire Mela area is divided into 12 zones and 42 sectors for ensuring smooth traffic and peace during the occasion. Police officer of rank of DSP would head a zone while officer of the rank of Inspector/ Sub Inspector oversee management of sectors. To ease traffic on the roads of the city during these two days the police would enforce route diversions at many traffic points.
