Garhwal university to implement CBCS, semester system

The Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna (HNB) Garhwal Central University is gearing itself up to implement the Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) along with the semester system from the next academic session, said Vice-Chancellor J l Kaul while interacting with the media persons here on Monday. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked all the Universities to compulsorily adopt the pattern of semester system from 2015.

Kaul said that University would start Multi disciplinary Online Courses which are required as per the new credit system of awarding marks. The implementation of semester system would ensure timely conduction of examination. He claimed that Garhwal University would not face much problem in shifting to the new pattern as semester system is presently being followed in the PG courses.

On the contentious issue of de-affiliation of colleges, VC said that university has no problem if any college applies for de-affiliation. It is worth mentioning here that on issues like legal problem in evening classes, many colleges has asked for de-affiliation from the university. Kaul informed that the issue was discussed in the recent meeting of Academic Council of University where it was decided to take opinion of HRD ministry on the matter.

The VC said that the university is also exploring a way by which the students of Garhwal University are given some benefit in the admission for PG courses. He disclosed that the university would adopt 20 villages so that students are involved in social works. To innovate the curriculum of the courses the university is also planning to introduce a system by with linkage with the industry is established.

Kaul said that innovation clubs would be opened in the university for the purpose. On the issue of starting new courses the VC said that he is open to the idea. Kaul, who assumed charge in December 14, claimed that he would do every possible effort to alleviate the standard of the university. He said that he is seeking cooperation of all in making the university a seat of excellence.
