Brahmapur body to celebrate Kumar Purnima in big way

With an aim to revive the extinct traditional art and culture and women-rural sports, the Madhumaya Panigrahi Foundation (MPF), a socio-cultural organisation of Ganjam district, held a preparatory meeting at the Khallikote College Ground here on Sunday. The organisation prepared a blueprint for celebration of “Kumara Punei Jahna lo-2015” which would be held at the BMC Town Hall here on October 27.

Artists from Nepal, Kolkata and Kerala including sprinter Dutee Chand and singers Ananya Nanda and lalita are likely to participate to encourage and inspire the local artists.

A total of 350 students from different schools of silk city and its adjoining areas actively participated in different events. In order to popularise women and rural-based sports such Daudi Dian, Khapara Dian, Thia Puchi, Basa Puchi, Hulahuli and Kaudi Khela and Sankha Phunka competitions were held with the active participation of school students from different parts of the district.

Attending as the chief guest, Brahmapur SP Sarthak Sadangi said, “Ganjam district is acclaimed for its great heritage and culture. Its numerous folk forms are unique.” He praised the efforts of MPF to revive some of the old folk dances and sports of the district.

Among others, chief coordinator of MPF Prafulla Jagannath Padhi, festival coordinator A Tripathi, Balaji Patra, Dr Mihir Kumar Tripathy, Dillip Kumar Choudhury,  Sudipta Panigrahi, and sports jury Bijay Adhikari were present.
