Puri-Ajmer Express derails at Boinda

The Puri-Ajmer Express train derailed near Boinda between Angul and Sambalpur at 2.20 pm on Sunday. However, no casualties were reported.

According to reports, the two sleeper coaches of the Express train suddenly derailed while it was nearing Boinda station.Following the incident, the railway authorities have short-terminated the Balangir-Bhubaneswar Intercity Express at Sambalpur while two other trains, Puri-Durg Express and Bhubaneswar-Rourkela Intercity Express, were diverted. Besides, Puri-Sambalpur Inter City Express scheduled to leave Puri on Sunday was cancelled.Meanwhile, East Coast Railway authorities have ordered a high-level inquiry into the cause of the derailment. The report of the enquiry committee is expected to be available within seven days, an ECoR Press release informed.

A team of railway officials led by Sambalpur DRM Debaraj Panda reached the spot with relief and rescue teams. The passengers of the two affected coaches were shifted to the other unaffected coaches and the train dispatched from the spot on priority. No medical attention was required as no injuries reported, the release said. IJ
