The Narcotics Control Bureau of Chandigarh, on Thursday disposed off 359 kilos of seized narcotic drugs.
The destroyed drugs included 351 kg heroin, 8 kg charas and 100 grams opium. Heroin was destroyed by using incinerator facility of Rainbow Environment at Village Baliyali, Mohali, while Charas and opium was sent
to the pharmaceutical factories where it can be used for medicines.
Raj Pal Singh, Deputy Director General of northern region NCB, Delhi, said that these drugs were recovered in 40 cases in last 12 years.
The drugs were destroyed on court orders. Most of the drugs were procured from different locations of Punjab.
The disposal of these Narcotics Drugs was carried out by a high level committee, after obtaining approval
from the respective Courts and the Punjab Pollution Control Board.
The committee was presided over by Raj Pal Singh, Deputy Director General, and also had Koshtub Sharma (Zonal Director, NCB Chandigarh), Nirbhay Singh (SP, NCB) and DSP Crime Chandigarh as its member.
As per the provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the narcotics drugs is disposed on the orders of the court.
Still, there is a huge quantity of opium and heroin in the custody of the committee awaiting permission from the concerned authority for disposal, added Raj Pal Singh.
