JUSCO, a subsidiary of Tata Steel that provided civic services in Jamshedpur has increased its power tariff. In domestic and commercial tariff there has been an increase of around 8 per cent to 9 per cent in this category. This category constitutes 99 per cent of company’s consumer base. Industrial tariff has been an increase of around 17 per cent to 18 per cent.
“JUSCO had given the petition to the Jharkhand State Electricity Regulatory Commission (JSERC) for tariff revision which has been approved and would be effective from 1 June 2014. Because of lack of quorum in the JSERC, the petition was pending for more than 2 years. Now with JSERC in position to take decision on the pending tariff revision of all the discoms and generation companies, the order has been released for tariff revision at Jamshedpur,” said a communiqué issued by JUSCO.
JUSCO purchase power from DVC and Tata Power and the cost of power purchase has increased over the last few years. All generating companies have been given tariff hike which results in increased cost load on the distributing companies. But inspite of increase in the purchase power cost, JUSCO has managed to curtain the cost and not pass on the entire cost to the consumers. Because of efficient and effective asset management, power tariff at Jamshedpur is one of the lowest in the country.
