Continuing its eviction drive, the enforcement squad of the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and General Administration Department together on Thursday cleared a two-km road by evicting around 30 street vendors and demolishing 11 temporary garages and 15 cabins and a Mangala temple in front of the OCAC between Jayadev Square and Vani Vihar Square along NH 5.
The eviction drive was carried out to pave way for construction of sewerage line and expansion of the National Highway. However, the squad could not demolish some shanties built by slum dwellers adjacent to the Utkal University boundary due to stiff opposition of the residents. The enforcement squad was also not able to evict an Omfed booth as its owner showed the status quo order from the High Court.
BDA Enforcement Officer Deba Prasad Dash supervised the demolition drive while two platoons of police force and a section of women APR force were deployed to avoid any untoward incident.
