Says NaMo wave a big zero
There are many who jettisoned their lucrative civil services career to become people’s representatives from Jharkhand this time round but Amitabh Choudhary eventually emerged as the only fortunate who managed a party ticket for the battle-2014. Former Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) and JVM candidate for Ranchi, Choudhary is also banking on his surge as Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) chief who brought the city on international cricket map. Now when opponents are rearing to knock him his stance on political pitch will be watched closely. Excerpts of his talk with The Pioneer:
Why did you choose JVMIJ
This is the only party in Jharkhand which is not tainted. All other parties are tainted. The leadership himself is the cleanest political leader in the State. He is probably the only Chief Minister so far with integrity.
Your constituency has fair amount of rural and urban mix. How are you planning your electioneeringIJ
I have been working in the area for last one and half years. I have been visiting villages on regular intervals and consulting people. I find that Government has not functioned in last 14 years in any way whatsoever. It has been in any case a dereliction of duty from all Governments except the first one headed by Babulal Marandi.
Ranchi constituency is also known for its caste equation which has been proved decisive time and again. What is your take on thisIJ
This is not a major factor for me and I am not bothered about that. Those things come into play when quality of candidate is poor. If there is a viable alternative it does not matter for the voters.
Image of yours has been an IPS officer and cricket boss. Which one is going to help you more on the political turfIJ
It is very simple. An individual needs not to change from one task to another.
The basic ingredient for any good human being is things like character, integrity, determination. This was shown when I was SSP of Ranchi and this has been shown again. This will be shown in future as well. Each one of my image is going to help me in my endeavour.
You along with some candidates in the JVM are being labeled as outsiders into the party. What is your reaction on thisIJ
People who have nothing to say about themselves, people who are big zeros, people who have no substance in them and people who have not performed say these things. I don’t know who have said this about me.
Who do you find your nearest and strongest rival in the battle for lok Sabha in the constituencyIJ
I think the Congress party candidate will fall behind for a simple reason. It is the most disliked party in the political situation due to corruption and non performance. So they will probably come last. And of course one local party (AJSU) which is contesting I do not think it has any substance also. So it looks like a fight between me and the BJP.
What are your priorities and what you find as the biggest problem Ranchi is facingIJ
Problem of Ranchi would be my upper most priority. Ranchi has never been thought off and conceptualised as State capital. It was only a district headquarter earlier.
For last 14 years it has been a State capital but never thought as State capital. If it is not then how are you going to build the capitalIJ So, first thing is to ensure that Ranchi develops as proper, decent State capital. I have two other major goals —educations sector and employment.
Any massage for the electorsIJ
I have a simple message and that is democracy needs from voters only one favour. And that favour is please go to the election booth and cast your vote to the best available option. The best available candidate is not to be determined by its face but to be determined by its track record, by its back history, by what he has been able to do in the past. This will make what he will be able to do in the future.
What is your take on NaMo wave, as it is being played outIJ
It is a big zero.
