Hindi play staged as part of National Theatre Festival

The weeklong National Theatre Festival being organised at Bharat Bhavan has become a regular event for the art lovers of the city as the Bhopalites are enjoying theatre dramas of different genres being performed by renowned theatre groups of the country.

On Monday a Hindi play Aurat Ki Jung describing the fear, and being strong in difficult situations was staged in Nautanki Style at Antarang Hall, Bharat Bhawan.

The play is based on original play written by Asif Ali and is conceived, composed and directed by eminent director Urmil Kumar Thapliyal. The play was performed spontaneously by the artists of Darpan Theatre Group, lucknow.

The play Aurat Ki Jung is all about tire plight, struggle and success of women that was presented in folk theatre form.

Earlier women were barred from participating in Nautanki and only male actors were performing in Nautanki. Even female roles were played by them. In such male dominated field, actress like Champa Bai not only paves the path for female artist in Nautanki but given a dignity to them.  Champa Bai has to fight not only for her existence, but for her theatre company. She has been forced to compromise with the situation but not surrendered.

The play represents all such women who contributed in this form of art called Nautanki. In Aurat Ki Jung the Champa Bai is not so important but her struggle and survival is important inspite of betrayal by many men came in her life. At the end she reached top of the fame in Nautanki.

Though the play was presented in form of Nautanki yet it was perfect blend of the traditional Nautanki and modern drama. The play is full of events, emotions and sensitivity. The music basically the traditional music like Dadara Thumari gave a mesmerizing flavor to the play. The audience was awestruck to watch the play as the matured acting skills of the artists maintained to capture the interest of the spectators.
