The Gajapati district administration on Wednesday evening decided to reinstate the headmaster, now under suspension, of the Ramagiri Ashram School of the State SC and ST Development Department and transfer him to a school outside the district.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting held at the district Collectorate in the presence of Collector Basudev Bahineepati, Integrated Tribal Development Authority (ITDA) project administrator Kalyan Kumar Rath and District Welfare Officer (DWO) Satybrata Dash, besides the school staff and managing committee members.
Keeping in view the ensuing matric examinations, it has also been decided to give the headmaster post of the school to a high-level officer. On the other hand, some students, who had quit the school demanding the reinstatement of their headmaster, have returned to the school, said sources.
Notably, it was alleged that students staying at the Ashram’s hostel had been employed as domestic help. A girl of the school’s hostel had petitioned to the district Collector about the practice following which the administration had sacked the headmaster. The girl has been sent to another residential school.
