Woman-daughter found killed in Tilak Nagar home, son critical

In a shocking incident, a woman and her teenage daughter were stabbed to death at their residence in Tilak Nagar on Wednesday night.

The incident came to light around 8 pm when neighbours spotted the woman’s critically injured son Jaspal coming out of the house. A senior police official said prima facie it seems to be an inside job.

According to the police, when the neighbours noticed 17-year-old Jaspal stumbling out of the house in a wounded state they rushed to his aid. Sensing that something was wrong, the neighbours went into the house and found 40-year-old Jasbeer and her 16-year-old daughter Prabhjot lying in a pool of blood. All of them were immediately rushed to the DDU Hospital where doctors declared Jasbeer and Prabhjot brought dead while Jaspal is undergoing treatment and is stated to be critical.

The three members of the family were attacked with a sharp knife-like object. Preliminary investigations revealed the role of an insider in the crime as police did not find any signs of forced entry into the house. Police are now probing the case from two angles, one related to a property dispute and the other of an illicit relationship. Sources revealed that a man used to visit the house quite often.

Police are also scanning the footage of a CCTV installed in the area to identify the accused. Though things in the house were scattered, police sources claimed that it was done to mislead investigators.

Sources further added that the mother was the prime target and the children were attacked only when they intervened to save her.

“Jaspal is critically injured and unfit to give a statement. A clear picture of the sequence of events would emerge once the boy’s statement is recorded. A case of murder has been registered at Tilak Nagar Police Station and several teams have been formed to crack the case,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (West) Ranvir Singh.
