Kanpur Police have solved the gruesome murder of Jyoti Dasani the daughter-in-law of billionaire biscuit manufacturer of Uttar Pradesh with the arrest of a driver and the victim’s husband, Piyush Shyam Dasani.
Interestingly, the second accused in the case, Awadhesh, is the driver of Piyush’s paramour. Awadhesh, with the help of an accomplice Sonu, had killed Jyoti in the presence of her husband in their Honda Accord car on Rawatpur-HBTI road in Swarup Nagar, late on Sunday night.According to the police, Piyush, son of UP’s biscuit king Om Prakash Dasani, who make Parle-G, got 27-year-old Jyoti eliminated as he wanted to marry his paramour.
Addressing mediapersons on Wednesday afternoon, zonal IG Ashutosh Pandey said after scanning the CCTV footage of a restaurant on Parvati Bagla Road where Piyush had gone on Sunday evening with Jyoti, and going through the call details of his cellphone, it became evident that he was behind the murder.
Police then arrested Piyush and his paramour’s driver Awadhesh, a native of Auraiya. They have also taken Piyush’s paramour into custody for interrogation. Police are searching for Awadhesh’s accomplice Sonu, who is absconding. The IG said that after his arrest, Piyush kept denying his involvement in the murder, but when he was shown the CCTV footage and the call details he confessed his involvement in the crime. The CCTV footage shows Piyush going out of the restaurant twice and talking to someone for about 20 minutes at the Parvati Bagla Road.
Giving the sequence of events, the IG said between 6 pm to 9.55 pm, Piyush talked to Awadhesh six times. At 9:56 pm, he talked to his paramour about their marriage. later, Piyush went to her place and asked her to destroy the SIMs of the BlackBerry mobile phones both of them had.
It seems that Piyush was not having one but two extra-marital affairs as he also had a relationship with one of his employees, a chemist, at the biscuit factory.
“Piyush continued to exploit her and had sent her 150 SMS and also received her replies. Both had decided to meet on July 28, but his employee had no role in the murder of Jyoti,” the IG added. He said that during the past two months, Piyush had made 1,200 calls to his paramour and she had called him 663 times.
According to the IG, for the past few days, Piyush has started going out of the house between 1 am and 4 am on the pretext of attending urgent work at the factory. When he heard Jyoti complaining to her parents about his activities, he was irked.Fearing that his philandering ways would be exposed in front of his in-laws during Jyoti’s visit to her parents’ house on Raksha Bandhan, Piyush decided to eliminate her before that.
As per Piyush’s statement recorded by the police, he had called Awadhesh to Checkmate Restaurant where he had gone with Jyoti. After dinner, Piyush and Jyoti sat on the back seat while Awadhesh drove the car. Sonu, the other assailant was also sitting in the front. Piyush told Jyoti that they were going on a long drive towards Allahabad.
As per the plan, on Rawatpur-HBTI Road, Awadhesh stabbed Jyoti to death in the presence of Piyush and Sonu.later, leaving Piyush behind, Awadhesh and Sonu drove the car with Jyoti’s body in it to Panki and abandoned it there. The police later discovered Jyoti’s blood-soaked body in the car. The IG said the knife used in the murder had not been recovered as yet.
