TCPl roped in for Barapullah Phase-3

In its bid to connect Mayur Vihar to Sarai Kale Khan, Delhi Government’s Public Works Department (PWD) has appointed Tandan Consultancy Private limited (TCPl) as consultant of the third phase of Barapullah elevated road project. The consultant will prepare structural design of the project. The decision was taken at a high level meeting of consultant appointment committee, chaired by Principal Secretary (PWD) Arun Baroka. This is the same consultant who had carried out structural design of the state-of-art Barapullah elevated road connecting Sarai Kale Khan to Jawahar lal Nehru stadium. The Yamuna Standing Committee (YSC) has already cleared the proposal to construct a bridge over the Yamuna, as part of Barapullah Phase-III.

Chief Engineer (flyover) of PWD, Sarvagya Srivastava told The Pioneer that consultant appointment committee has appointed Tandan Consultancy Private limited (TCPl) to carry out structural design of the third phase of the project. This will be the first bridge in Delhi to be constructed on stilts, so as not to disturb the riverbed. The Phase-III of Barapullah will connect INA market with Mayur Vihar and the bridge will be constructed between the DND flyway and Nizamuddin bridge. The alignment of the bridge will be similar to that of the pontoon bridge.

“The bridge will begin at Sarai Kale Khan and descend near the Metro station in Mayur Vihar Phase-I. The bridge will be 3.5 km long and the elevated road is expected to descend at-grade before the Mayur Vihar flyover,’’ an official said. The bridge will be a boon for those who commute between East and South Delhi as they will be able to bypass the congestion on Ring Road. This extension of Barapullah to East Delhi will also ease congestion on Nizamuddin bridge and the DND flyway, cutting down travel time from South to East Delhi to 20 minutes.

“Since the elevated road will be built to span the Yamuna, its construction needed the approval of the Central Water and Power Research Station in Pune. The station has completed the hydraulic model study and has given its approval for construction of the bridge. On Thursday, the YSC also gave its clearance to this project. The project proposal will now be sent to the Government for administrative and financial approvals. If sanctions come through in the next three months, we hope to float the tender by October and start work by the end of this year,” an official said, adding that Phase-III is expected to cost around Rs 1,200 crore.

The alignment of the Barapullah Phase-III also includes the construction of a flyover parallel to the flyover along the UP link Road, near Mayur Vihar Phase-I. The new flyover will facilitate movement from Noida towards Akshardham.
