Kejri breached poll code at Aiwan-e-Ghalib: Police to EC

Miffed with AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal’s unannounced presence at a conference organised at Aiwan-e-Ghalib in Central Delhi, the Delhi Police has written to Election Commission of India (EC) against AAP leadership for violating the Model Code of Conduct.

The Delhi Police has sought directions from the EC for initiating action against AAP leadership for not seeking permission from them for the programme. The organisers too are in the firing line as they too failed to inform the Delhi Police about Kejriwal’s participation.

In a letter to the EC, the Delhi Police stated that during the conference, Kejriwal spoke about his upcoming political rally in Varanasi and also attacked BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi hence it was political gathering for which the prior permission is required.

Police sources said that the conference ‘National conference on roadmap for Indian Muslims’ was organised on Tuesday morning and the concerned authorities have taken permission from the Delhi Police on Monday afternoon. However, it was not informed that former Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal and other senior AAP leaders, Prashant Bhushan, Ashutosh and Gopal Rai would be participating in the event.

“The Central district police went into tizzy after they received input from the Special Branch of Delhi Police on Tuesday that Kejriwal and other senior leaders of AAP were coming in the conference,” the sources added.

As per Model Code of Conduct, the Central district police immediately informed the EC about this event and later flying squad of EC came at Aiwan-e-Ghalib. “They inspected the event and left the spot after deploying some officials at the event. The Delhi Police later made special security arrangements and deployed extra security personnel along with police personnel of Central district,” sources said, adding that some police personnel were also deployed inside the auditorium to record the whole event.
